Burma Democratic Concern Says Who Will Save Cyclone Nargis Victims of Burma.

After more than two weeks cyclone Nargis hit Burma, more than 200, 000 feared dead and 2.5 million people displaced. Still Burmese military regime refuses to allow expertises and logistical experts into the country.

United Nations seems powerless to give humanitarian assistance to the victims of cyclone due to the junta denial to grant visas to international experts. As military government does not have capacity to cope with the skill of disaster faced but they still do not want to put people lives first. UN knows that second wave of catastrophe is eminent if humanitarian assistance cannot give on time to 2.5 million people.

As the time goes by people are dying and UN is trying to negotiate with the illegitimate regime, which never respect people's will. No tangible practical actions have been taken yet from world leaders, instead words of frustration, denounce and upset are on the air.

US, UK and France naval ships are waiting and daydreaming for the green light from the junta to give access to the victims in order to carry out humanitarian assistance mission. They are only one hour away from the starving people. However, they cannot help them.

The question is who will save on time for the lives of cyclone Nargis victims who desperately need clean water, health care, food, shelter and security. Are we going to let the people die from starvation, diseases and lack of shelter? If aid cannot get to the people in need on time, it seems like victims themselves need to go and get the food, which is one-hour away from them.

United Nations must force the ruling junta to open the doors for all assistance and expertises or face the consequences. United Nations and International Community must put the millions of lives first rather than a bunch of generals.

If Burmese generals do not open the doors, then what will International Community and United Nations do? International Community should recognise that it has responsibilities to save the lives of millions of people and take action before too late.
